Positions
at High Trails
Our goal is to have a
structure that not only challenges everyone as much as they want, but
gives folks a clear understanding of how they can grow professionally at
High Trails. For our first year staff, time spent in the field and the
cabins is often challenge enough. For those interested in multiple
seasons, or those that have a healthy amount of outdoor education
experience, we're ready for you: the Support Coordinator is a great way
to get an introduction to administration, and the Health Coordinator
offers an even greater challenge. Once you’re ready, the Program
Director and Site Director positions may offer the biggest challenge
yet.

"We want our staff to learn and experience several things; the
importance of having a strong and realistic work ethic, the joy of
living in a positive and supportive community, the reward of exploring and
appreciating nature, and the imperative necessity of being a lifelong
learner and educator"; see here for more
details. Take some time and tell us how, during your
tenure at High Trails, you have exemplified these tenets of our mission,
and how another year at High Trails will benefit you and what you want
to do with your life. Note: please do not assume that you are
guaranteed a position; we will be just as selective with returning staff
as we are with new staff.
Instructors returning after having worked a Fall/Spring or Spring season will be offered a bonus per day wage, payable to accumulated days at the end of your contracted period. Fall contracts are valued at $2 per day, and Full Year contracts are valued at $5 per day. For example, you decide to return to High Trails and sign a Fall contract. You fulfill the terms of your contract and work 75 days in the fall. Your last check before Christmas will have a bonus on it of 75 x $2, or $150. If you sign a Full Year contract and work 175 days, your last check of the season in May will be 175 x $5, or $875. The intention here is to reward good instructors for returning, and to make certain when they do leave High Trails they have some money in their pockets.
